Hibla Gerzmava announces the launch of a new International Opera Singers and Accompanists Competition

The Competition is held by the Hibla Gerzmava Foundation with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives. The General Partner of the Competition is the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre.

Opera singer Hibla Gerzmava, the Artistic Director and Creator of the Competition, comments:

“Our competition will be an excellent launching pad for young talents. We will open the doors of opera houses to the winners, give them the opportunity to make their stage debuts and help them discover their individuality and their musical and artistic potential. I would like the new generation of opera artists – the artists of the twenty-first century – to develop the best traditions of opera culture. I am sure that, thanks to the talented young people, this art form will enjoy a breath of fresh air, new popularity and, of course, a new audience.”

The total prize fund of the International Opera Singers and Accompanists Competition will comprise over 6.5 million roubles, of which 2.5 million roubles will be awarded to the Grand Prix winner. The first-place winner among the vocalists will receive 1.5 million roubles, the second place – 1 million roubles, and the third place – 800 thousand roubles. Additionally, cash prizes will be awarded to the winners among the accompanists. Together with the valuable prizes and gifts, the laureates will also be presented with a unique opportunity to make their debut on one of the finest opera stages in Russia in the coming season. For example, the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre, and the Helikon-Opera are ready to welcome the Competition winners.

The Competition will have several rounds. Vocalists will have a remote qualifying round and three main rounds, while accompanists will have two rounds: one in which they will perform with the vocalists taking part in the Competition, and the second round in which they will present a special performance at the Competition. A maximum of 16 vocalists and 16 accompanists will be selected for the First Round. The Competition is open to vocalists between the ages of 18 and 35, who are currently pursuing or have completed their professional education, and to professional pianists between the ages of 22 and 35, who will accompany the competing vocalists. A jury of experts, including renowned stage directors, conductors, opera agents and vocal coaches, will judge the participants. The jury will be headed by Hibla Gerzmava.
