On November 25th, Hibla for the first time will be singing in Puccini’s La bohème at the Metropolitan Opera, stage production by Franco Zeffirelli. A series of four performances conducted by Louis Langrée, starring Hibla, will last until December 8th. The part of Mimì is one of the brightest in Hibla’s repertoire. She performed this role dozens of times: ranging from her “native” Moscow Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theatre to the opera houses of Munich (Bayerische Staatsoper), Rome (Teatro dell’Opera di Roma) and St Petersburg (Mariinsky Theatre). Her Mimì is gentle, yet extremely emotional, sensitive to pain and touching to tears. A famous Russian actress Faina Ranevskaya said that one should not play on stage, but should live on stage: Mimì performed by Hibla Gerzmava is a true example to the words of the great actress.
