The BBC Proms 2011 season program has been officially released

An important event happened in the musical world last night: the BBC Proms 2011 season program has been officially released. This year the 116th issue of this annual Festival will run from 15 July till 10 September. The concept of promenade concerts introduced by Sir Henry Wood is an integral part of the British society and the whole idea of the democratic British musical culture ought to be understood through the prism of “promming”. In 1927, the BBC took over the running of the concerts and the Festival evolved to the one of the most prestigious events world-wide. All of the Festival concerts are broadcast live and for future relay on the BBC radio. Hibla Gerzmava will take part in the opening concert of the Festival on 15 July (Prom No. 1) and will perform a solo part in the Janácek’s “Glagolitic Mass” along with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Jirí Belohlávek — a musician that greatly changed people’s perception of the music of his native Czech Republic.
