Hibla’s sing the role of Amelia Grimaldi

Hibla’s repertoire will soon be extended with a role from Giuseppe Verdi’s opera — in the composer’s bicentenary year she will sing the role of Amelia Grimaldi, the daughter of the first Doge of Genoa, in his political opera Simon Boccanegra on stage of the Royal Opera House Convent Garden. Rehearsals of this production staged by Elijah Moshinsky will run for three weeks and will be followed by six performances at the Covent Garden from June 27 to July 16 as well as one performance of the opera in concert at the Birmingham Symphony Hall on July 7. Hibla’s partners on stage will be baritone Thomas Hampson (Simon Boccanegra, a corsair) and bass Ferruccio Furlanetto (Jacopo Fiesco, a Genoese nobleman). Sir Antonio Pappano conducts.
